From blacksmith's workshop to global market leader!

Explore seven generations of engineering excellence. From our 19th-century industrial roots to our status as a world leader, the Faymonville legacy is defined by a relentless focus on solving the world's most complex transport challenges.

Forging a Legacy: Seven Generations of Engineering DNA

The Faymonville story is etched in iron and sweat, beginning in the 19th century as a blacksmith in Rocherath, Belgium. For over 150 years, the Faymonville family has mastered the art of metalwork, evolving from local repairs to the precision manufacturing of complex machinery.

By the early 1960s, this deep-rooted expertise transitioned into the specialised world of forestry and agricultural vehicles. In 1962, Berthold Faymonville opened the company’s first industrial production hall, a pivotal milestone that transformed a traditional family craft into the modern engineering powerhouse that now leads the global heavy haulage industry.

1960s – 1980s: Pioneering the Special Transport Revolution

The late 1960s signaled a bold strategic shift as Faymonville pivoted toward the high-stakes world of special transport. This era of innovation began with the construction of our first inloaders, followed in 1973 by the debut of our specialised lowbed trailers engineered specifically for the glass industry.

By 1977, we were tackling the "impossible", developing a custom inloader designed to move enormous glass panes with absolute precision. The momentum culminated in 1980 with a major technical breakthrough: our first extendable semi-trailer featuring hydraulic steering. This pivotal era cemented our trajectory, defining Faymonville as the global specialist for the most demanding heavy haulage challenges.

Strategic Growth & A New Era of Leadership

To meet surging international demand, Faymonville reached a critical turning point in 1988, significantly expanding its manufacturing footprint with a new, high-capacity industrial facility in Büllingen, Belgium.

In 1991, following the legacy of Berthold Faymonville, his sons Alain and Yves Faymonville assumed leadership, steering the company toward a future of unprecedented global growth. Under their vision, the 1990s saw a rapid evolution of the product range, culminating in the opening of two strategic European hubs: Lentzweiler, Luxembourg (2003), which became the Group’s technological heart, and Goleniów, Poland (2006), the specialised core for vehicle chassis and the future home of the MAX Trailer brand.

Global Synergy & The Birth of a New Standard

As a cornerstone of the Faymonville Group, we are part of an elite international network specialising in the design and manufacture of semi-trailers, lowbeds, and heavy-duty modular vehicles. This global synergy allows us to provide the UK market with unrivaled engineering depth across every transport sector.

In 2012, the Group achieved a major industry breakthrough with the launch of the MAX Trailer brand. This was more than just a new product; it was a revolutionary modular principle. By utilising a standardised, high-quality building system, we enabled operators to configure premium vehicles to their exact needs, combining the precision of series production with the flexibility of a bespoke solution.

A Global Full-Range Leader: Engineering Without Limits

In 2017, the Faymonville Group reached a new horizon by acquiring the Italian specialist Cometto, the world leader in self-propelled modular vehicles (SPMT). This move brought heavy-duty industrial and shipyard transporters into our stable, allowing us to move the largest loads on the planet.

Continuing this trajectory of innovation, Morello joined the Faymonville Group at the beginning of 2026. Based in Turin, Morello is a globally recognised pioneer in battery-driven electric heavy-load vehicles. This partnership introduces emission-free, high-capacity intralogistics solutions to our portfolio, designed for the most demanding indoor and outdoor industrial environments.

Today, the synergy between MAX Trailer, Faymonville, Morello, and Cometto establishes the Group as the industry’s only true full-range supplier. From UK plant hire to global aerospace and nuclear projects, we provide a seamless spectrum of transport solutions for payloads ranging from 5 tonnes to over 25,000 tonnes.
