The company was founded on the 6th June 1986, originally working as a sub-contractor for Central Motor Auctions. Our core business was valeting cars and trucks, also taking over their paint shop which expanded to commercial painting in over three depots. All from the original Central Motor auctions premises in Rothwell.
The natural progression of the company led to the expansion into specialist vehicle transport, recovery and other specialist services. This progressed from new freehold premises adjacent to our old rented premises which allowed us to expand the business.
Throughout the nineties, we began to expand our specialist services whilst working as far afield as West Africa, East Africa, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the rest of Europe. Thus becoming a true “Universal Company”.
Our recovery division expanded rapidly by handling major operations for leading European insurers and successfully managing the West Yorkshire Police Recovery scheme for six years. By the early 2000s, this ongoing growth culminated in a partnership with Belgium's Faymonville AG to establish Faymonville UK, becoming the exclusive provider of their specialist trailers, parts, and aftersales support.
The founding of a Property company which acquired land in Selby, built a joint venture business park, which part is still owned and rented out along with other buildings which have been either built or acquired in the process.
The second generation of the family joins the business and takes a more managerial role helping to push the business forward. With Ryan taking the Faymonville Parts business to another level, and Adam expanding the service and recovery side of the business, including the Faymonville trailer business which is now growing rapidly.
As Rydam's operations expanded globally to the USA, Australia, and Dubai, we acquired adjacent premises to accommodate our rapid growth. This expansion introduced new offices and a dedicated 4,000 sq ft parts department to support the thriving Faymonville brand. We also became the UK distributor for the innovative Dutch VDZ towing system, successfully exporting the equipment to international markets including Australia, the Middle East, and Hong Kong.
A new state of the art workshop was built to accommodate the growing business, with the latest equipment to take the Faymonville trailers and Rydam Universal Ltd into the next generation.
In November 2016, Rydam undertook the monumental task of locating, collecting, and transporting the entire Hewden Crane Hire fleet following its financial collapse. Through months of complex UK-wide logistics, our small but dedicated team successfully facilitated the world's largest ever sale of mobile cranes. This once-in-a-lifetime achievement earned us the prestigious 'Project of the Year' at 'The Heavies' 2017 awards.
In 2018, Rydam partnered with leading Pacific manufacturer Novawinch to market their newly launched own-brand winches in the UK. Leveraging our extensive engineering expertise, we actively co-develop new winch models, advise on global market trends, and support their worldwide trade show presence. Today, we successfully export these innovative winches to international partners in the Netherlands and Australia.
